I'm Breaking Up With Social Media

Daily screen time activity log: 173 pick-ups
Yep. You read the right. My iPhone tracked that I picked it up 173 times within 24 hours. As embarrassing as that is, between checking the time, responding to messages, and mindlessly scrolling, I know I'm not alone in that number. We all do it. After watching The Social Dilemma on Netflix, seeing that number on my screen was a total gut punch. How could I fall into that trap?
I've taken some time to reflect on my relationship with my phone, social media, and how I communicate with others. The verdict is: I'm addicted. I'm attempting to fill a void through instant gratification. Constantly reaching for this external device that I identify so much with and yet is causing so much suffering.
Becoming aware of the impact this unhealthy relationship has had on my well-being, I'm taking a step back. There is so much noise in this world, and my soul is craving some peace and quiet. As I take this step back to soothe my soul and focus on the impact I want to have on this world, I'm removing Facebook and Instagram from my life for a bit.
While I break up with social media, I want to continue sharing valuable content. So, you'll find me here, blogging away, sharing all the things that can bring improvements to your life.
Well, here goes nothing! I'm putting the phone down, lifting my head up, and seeing what the world has to teach me.
